Network discovery is an important activity in cybersecurity because organizations need to understand the devices, services, and network resources present within their authorized infrastructure. Unknown or unmanaged devices can increase the attack surface and make security monitoring more difficult. The proposed Network Discovery and Port Scanning Assessment Using Nmap system provides a structured approach for identifying hosts and analyzing exposed network services within an approved network environment. Nmap is a widely used network discovery and security auditing utility that can help identify active hosts, accessible ports, service information, and other network characteristics. The proposed system uses Nmap as the underlying assessment engine and organizes its results through a centralized interface. Instead of requiring analysts to interpret raw command-line output manually, the platform processes the results into structured and understandable information. The system can collect information such as discovered hosts, open or accessible ports, detected services, service versions where available, and scan status. The collected information is normalized and stored for analysis and historical comparison. A riskassessment component can categorize exposed services according to predefined organizational policies and help analysts identify assets that require further security review. A dashboard provides visual summaries of discovered hosts, port distributions, service categories, and assessment findings. The system can also maintain scan history and generate structured reports for authorized network administrators and security teams. This improves the documentation and communication of network assessment results. The primary objective of the project is to improve network visibility and simplify authorized port-scanning assessment. By integrating Nmap with result processing, risk classification, visualization, and reporting, the system can help organizations identify unnecessary network exposure and improve defensive security practices. The platform is intended for authorized internal networks, laboratory environments, cybersecurity education, and legitimate security auditing.
