COMPREHENSIVE NETWORK RECONNAISSANCE AND VULNERABILITY ANALYSIS USING NMAP AND ZENMAP

Network security has become a critical concern in modern computing environments due to the rapid growth of cyber threats and system vulnerabilities. This mini project focuses on network reconnaissance and vulnerability analysis using Nmap and its graphical interface Zenmap. The primary objective is to identify active hosts, open ports, running services, and potential security weaknesses within a network. Nmap, a widely used open-source tool for network discovery and security auditing, supports various advanced scanning techniques such as TCP SYN scan, UDP scan, version detection, and operating system fingerprinting. Zenmap enhances usability by providing a user-friendly graphical interface that allows efficient visualization and interpretation of scan results. In this project, multiple scanning methodologies are implemented to perform systematic analysis of target networks. The collected data is examined to detect vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, and exposed services that may be exploited by attackers. Additionally, the project highlights the importance of ethical practices and safe scanning during security assessments. The results demonstrate that Nmap and Zenmap are effective tools for strengthening network security by enabling proactive identification of risks and supporting timely mitigation strategies. This study emphasizes the necessity of regular network monitoring and vulnerability assessment to ensure a secure and resilient infrastructure.
