The financial industry is experiencing significant transformation with the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in decision-making systems, especially in loan approval processes. However, traditional AI and machine learning models often lack transparency, making it difficult for customers and regulators to understand how decisions are made. This lack of clarity raises concerns about bias, fairness, and accountability in automated financial systems. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) addresses these issues by making the decision-making process of AI systems more transparent and understandable to human users. This paper examines how XAI can influence the future of loan approval systems by improving the reliability and trustworthiness of automated lending processes. It explores how explainable models can provide clear reasons for the approval or rejection of loan applications, helping financial institutions meet regulatory requirements and improve customer confidence. The study also discusses various XAI techniques such as SHAP (SHapley Additive Explanations), LIME (Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations), and decision trees, highlighting their use in credit risk assessment. In addition, the research evaluates challenges involved in implementing XAI in real-world banking systems, including data privacy concerns, model complexity, and resistance to technological change. The paper concludes that integrating XAI into loan approval systems can improve transparency and fairness while supporting more inclusive lending practices, enabling underserved communities to gain better access to financial services. This transition toward explainable models represents an important step toward ethical and responsible AI deployment in the financial sector..
