Social media has evolved from a platform for personal communication into one of the most powerful forces shaping consumer behaviour in the modern marketplace. Platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter) now influence how consumers discover products, evaluate alternatives, and ultimately make purchase decisions. This study examines the impact of social media on the buying choices of consumers, focusing on how content, advertisements, influencer endorsements, peer reviews, and interactive engagement shape consumer attitudes and purchase intentions. The research explores key dimensions such as brand awareness, trust, perceived credibility of influencers, impulse buying tendencies, and post-purchase behaviour driven by social media interaction. A descriptive research design was adopted using both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to active social media users across different age groups, while secondary data were drawn from marketing journals, industry reports, and credible online publications related to digital marketing and consumer psychology. The collected data were analyzed using percentage analysis, mean analysis, and graphical representation to evaluate the extent and nature of social media's influence on purchasing decisions. The findings indicate that social media significantly shapes consumer buying choices by building brand awareness, influencing trust through peer and influencer recommendations, and encouraging impulsive and comparison-based purchasing. However, challenges such as misinformation, privacy concerns, influencer credibility issues, and information overload continue to affect consumer confidence in social-media-driven purchase decisions. The study concludes that when used strategically, social media can be a powerful tool for building brand loyalty and driving sales, provided that businesses maintain transparency, authenticity, and consistent engagement with their audience.
