Abstract

With the scaling limits of conventional CMOS technology approaching physical constraints, alternative computing paradigms are critical for sustaining performance improvements in digital systems. This study explores the design and implementation of a nano-magnetic logic (NML) barrel shifter as a high-performance, low-power alternative to CMOS-based architectures. Leveraging spintronic devices and magnetic logic principles, the proposed barrel shifter performs efficient bit-level shift operations while minimizing energy consumption and improving switching speed. Design simulations demonstrate that the NMLbased barrel shifter achieves significant reductions in dynamic and static power compared to CMOS equivalents, while offering high robustness against thermal fluctuations and process variations. The findings highlight the potential of nanomagnetic logic in enabling beyond-CMOS computing architectures for next-generation digital systems.
